Wisdom from Prophets

Wisdom Lessons from Prophet Jonah (Yunus) Story

Everybody has his own way to get the wisdom, and this is one as my way to get the wisdom from the prophet stories. If you have different wisdom from my wisdom, it is also ok and acceptable too. You can write and give comment below this writing. And it will be the other knowledge and wisdom that is useful for all too.

Moral Lesson: In The hand of Allah, Impossible things become possible.

Prophet Jonah was in the belly of the whale. Why was he swallowed by that big fish? Why would Allah allow the whale swallowed prophet Jonah? Everything is under controlled by Allah. Was there any purpose from Allah? When we think positively about it then the answer was ‘yes’. Everything is encompassed by Him even it is a single bacteria or virus. And what was the purpose? Allah loved His prophets because He used them to warn the people. When prophet Jonah was thrown into the sea by the crew of the ship, then the big fish swallowed him. Allah commands the whale to swallow him in order to save him from being drown into the deep sea. If he was not swallowed, then he would be dead at that time. Allah let him in the belly of that fish for three days and three nights because he was drown into the sea when the ship was in the middle of the ocean. So the whale needed three days and three nights to find the land then vomited him out from his mouth. There was also other purpose besides saving prophet Jonah alive, it was also the punishment for prophet Jonah because he left his people without Allah’s permission. It meant that he was not patient, he was not responsible on his duties. The suffering condition of him in the belly of the big fish, in the darkness made him ask repentance and realize that he was the wrong doer at that time. And prophet Jonah prayed to Allah to forgive him. In Surat Anbiya ayat 87 is his prayer And (remember) Dhan-Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamites which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified (and Exalted) are You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers."

Application: We are often as the wrong doer every day without being realized by ourselves. How many times we do not do our duties well such as in taking care of the children, be patient in living with our friends with our neighbors, must do our job well not just do the job as we like. We have to do our best optimally as Allah wishes. And we have to know actually that we are alive in this world not only for ourselves, but we are sent to be in this world because Allah appointed human beings as the ‘khalifah’. But most people know not about it. Then being wrong doers, we could be sick. We could be fired by our boss, or our families could have problems. All happens of course with Allah’s permission. When we have difficult problems such as being sick or get no jobs or etc, we should do like what prophet Jonah did when he was in the belly of the whale. He realized his mistake and asked repentance as mentioned in Surat Anbiya ayat 87. We should also realize that we are also the wrong doers, we should ask repentance, and Allah will bring us to the land of solution though it is very difficult situation and like there is no way out from it. When Jonah was in the belly of the whale, logically human beings could not be alive there but with Allah’s power he was alive and was given the chance to improve his deeds and do what Allah commanded at that time. He was back again to the people of Nineveh to warn them that they were wrong. When we are sick then we are healthy, we have not to forget about our duties from Allah and we must do it again. We have to be grateful because we are given the chance to do it again, it means that He still put His trust on us. And the way to remind us that we are wrong is by letting us to be sick or have the problems. In those ways, we will remember and make ourselves run to our Lord again.
